High frequency-based protection algorithm for meshed MTDC systems

Abstract This research presents a high frequency-based algorithm for zonal protection of meshed Multi-Terminal voltage Direct Current (MTDC) systems. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is used to capture frequency current transients from one end each line. The faulty line identified by analyzing two distinct bands form the captured transients. characteristics these during normal condition are different condition. A four-terminal MTDC model test performance algorithm. Various faults with fault scenarios were simulated using model. simulation results showed success in identifying internal faults. Moreover, robustness against other abnormal conditions such as AC and sudden change wind power.
